Few places in Europe have a road cycling reputation quite like Mallorca.
The Serra de Tramuntana provides the headline rides, with legendary roads such as Sa Calobra and Coll dels Reis, the climb towards Lluc and the spectacular coastal routes around Port de Sóller, Deià and Valldemossa. Further north, Cap de Formentor combines rolling terrain with some of the finest Mediterranean views on the island.
Our Mallorca bike tours work particularly well for road cyclists because the riding can be challenging without dominating the entire holiday. After the climbs come beautiful villages, beaches, excellent gastronomy and boutique hotels, creating a destination that’s as rewarding off the bike as it is on it. The current Mallorca road tour reaches up to around 2,000 metres of daily elevation, so there’s plenty here for riders looking for a serious day in the saddle.
For something completely different, head south to Andalucía.
Here, road cycling takes you through olive groves, natural parks and whitewashed villages, with long stretches of quiet rural road and a constantly changing landscape.
On our Andalucía bike tours, you will find routes around Córdoba, the Sierras Subbéticas and towards Ronda combine steady climbing with some of southern Spain’s most fascinating cultural destinations. Daily stages on our Andalucía road bike journey can reach 55 to 90 km with 700 to 1,400 metres of elevation, making this particularly rewarding territory for intermediate and experienced road cyclists.
And when the riding finishes, Andalucía gives you another reason to travel: historic towns, tapas, local wines, exceptional olive oil and long evenings in village squares.
The Basque Country offers perhaps the most varied road cycling of the three.
The terrain constantly rises and falls as roads move between green mountains, forests and the Atlantic coastline. One moment you’re climbing away from a fishing village, the next you’re descending towards the Bay of Biscay with the ocean stretching out ahead.
It’s ideal for riders who enjoy rolling and mountainous terrain rather than long stretches of flat road. Our Bilbao to France bike tour averages around 53 km and 990 metres of climbing per day, giving the journey a sporty character without making it purely about performance.
And few cycling destinations reward the effort quite like the Basque Country. San Sebastián’s food culture, pintxos, coastal villages and local wines make what happens after the ride every bit as memorable as the cycling itself.
