Exceptional Bike Tour in the Basque Country
Our Basque Country bike tour was absolutely amazing and surpassed our expectations on all fronts! Our friendly and highly professional guides, Luìs and André, were exceptional and took care of our every need throughout the trip from start to finish. I had transitioned from a hybrid to a road bike for the tour. Our guides provided insightful cycling tips throughout and made me a more efficient and technically competent rider enabling me to power through all the ascents we tackled during our tour.
The rides, coastal and inland, were incredible. The scenery along every route was beautiful. Details and logistics for accommodations, meals, snacks and cycling nutritional needs were meticulously planned and executed. Our bikes were very high quality and carefully maintained throughout the tour. This was our second cycling tour with Live, Love, Ride. We had the same amazing experience when we cycled in Portugal with Luis and Joaquim in 2024. We are already planing our next bike tour in Spain with the expert team at Live, Love, Ride.
Outstanding service
Had a fantastic week of cycling. A group of 7 of us and 2 guides cycled through beautiful countryside, stopping in picturesque little villages during each days ride. Staying in different high quality accommodation each night. The guides we had with us, Rodrigo and Luis were great. Well organised, knowledgeable, friendly and fun. We felt extremely well looked after. Planning our return trip already.
Our self-guided cycling tours in Spain are designed around one simple idea, you decide how each day will go:
Every route is carefully curated in advance, but the rhythm of the ride is entirely yours.
Although the cycling itself is independent, nothing is improvised. Hotels are booked, luggage is transferred ahead, and daily routes are prepared using local knowledge you wouldn’t easily find on your own. Detailed briefings, GPS tracks, and remote support mean you can focus on riding rather than logistics.
This balance makes self guided cycling tours especially appealing to intermediate and experienced riders who value autonomy but still expect reliability. You’re not following a group or a guide, yet you’re never left guessing where to go or how things work.
Our self guided bicycle tours combine freedom with comfort, allowing you to experience Spain on your terms, without sacrificing ease or peace of mind.
Spain is one of Europe’s most rewarding destinations for self guided cycling holidays. Here are some reasons why:
From seaside roads and vineyard valleys to mountain ranges and quiet inland countryside fields, the diversity is amazing!
First-time visitors find Spain welcoming and easy to navigate, while repeat travelers keep coming back for regions that feel completely different from one another.
What sets our self-guided bike tours apart is how these elements come together:
Our self-guided bike tours in Spain are designed so you can focus on riding, not organizing. From arrival to departure, the essentials are covered, including:
Throughout your self guided cycling holidays in Spain, you’ll have remote contact with your dedicated tour guide whenever needed.
Spain works so well for cycling because every region feels different once you’re on the bike.
Each area has its own terrain, atmosphere and cultural rhythm, shaping a very different riding experience from one place to the next. For example, coastal routes feel nothing like inland hills or northern green landscapes.

Cycling the Camino de Santiago from León is about progression rather than performance. Each day takes you through quiet rural roads, linking small villages, Romanesque churches and long stretches of open countryside. The ride carries a natural rhythm, shaped by the terrain and the pilgrimage history beneath your wheels.
As one of the most meaningful self guided bicycle tours in Spain, our Camino de Santiago bike tours suit travelers who enjoy moments of reflection and cultural immersion.
The experience builds gradually, day after day, as landscapes change and the sense of purpose grows stronger.
Our Catalonia bike tours deliver contrast in every sense... Inland, Girona is a hub of cycling culture, surrounded by rolling farmland, medieval villages and quiet roads shaped by decades of riding tradition.
Head east and the landscape opens to Costa Brava, where coastal roads trace cliffs, coves and small fishing towns.
A self-guided bike tour in Costa Brava combines inland climbs with sea-level cruising, offering constant variety without long transfers. It’s an ideal region for riders who want Mediterranean light, cultural depth and different riding styles in a single trip.
Our Andalucia bike tours invite you to slow down... Cycling routes take you through rolling hills, olive groves and whitewashed villages shaped by centuries of Moorish and Spanish history. Roads are generally quiet, climbs are steady rather than aggressive, and the scenery changes gradually.
Thanks to its mild climate and cultural richness, a self-guided bike tour in Andalucia works well for relaxed yet immersive riding, balancing simplicity, heritage and a strong sense of place.
Your days will often finish in historic towns where food, wine and conversation become part of the journey.
Mallorca is compact, accessible and a remarkably diverse island.
Roads along the coast offer wide views over the Mediterranean, while the Serra de Tramuntana introduces longer climbs and rewarding descents. Despite its popularity, much of the island still feels calm once you leave the main streets.
Mild weather and excellent road conditions make self guided bike tours in Mallorca especially attractive for couples and active leisure cyclists. E-bikes fit naturally here, allowing mixed-ability riders to enjoy the same routes without compromise.
Northern Spain feels different the moment you arrive. In the Basque Country, you’ll find hills overlooking the Atlantic, backroads between fishing villages, coastal cliffs and quiet inland valleys.
When joining our Basque Country bike tours, the roads are less traveled, the air is cooler, and the riding feels more intimate.
This region appeals to travelers looking for a less typical Spanish cycling experience, shaped as much by food and culture as by scenery. From Bilbao toward the French border, the coastline reveals a side of Spain that contrasts sharply with southern and Mediterranean cycling routes.
Both guided and self-guided cycling holidays in Spain offer you rewarding ways to explore the country. The right choice depends on how much structure, social interaction and in-person support you want during your cycling trip.
Our guided bike tours in Spain are fully supported from start to finish. You’ll ride in a small group, a local guide meets you at the start and finish of your riding day, shares insight into the region, and adapts routes as needed.
A support vehicle follows along and our guides often handle restaurant reservations and local experiences. If learning from locals and sharing the journey matters to you, our guided group bike tours in Spain may be the best fit.
On the other hand, our self-guided bike tours focus on independence. Cycling routes, hotels, bikes, luggage transfers, and navigation are organized in advance, but once you’re riding, the day is yours.
There’s no group schedule to follow and no guide in person, just reliable preparation and remote support when needed. It’s a natural choice for travelers who enjoy autonomy and total privacy.
Both travel styles work beautifully. It simply comes down to how you want to experience Spain.
Yes. Spain is great for self-guided cycling thanks to quiet secondary roads, strong cycling infrastructure, and generally respectful drivers.
Our cycling routes are carefully selected to avoid heavy traffic, making the experience comfortable even for first-time self-guided travelers.
Spring and fall are usually the best periods, offering mild temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer works well in northern regions and coastal areas, while winter can be ideal in southern Spain.
Each region has its own seasonal rhythm, which is considered when we set the dates of our group bike tours in Spain.
You don’t need to be an expert rider, but a reasonable level of fitness helps. Routes are graded by difficulty, and distances are manageable. Our self guided bicycle tours in Spain are e-bike ready, making climbs and longer days more accessible.
Yes. E-bikes and flexible route design make it easy for riders of different abilities to enjoy the same trip. Couples, friends and families often ride together at different paces, meeting again at scenic stops or back at the hotel by the end of the day.
