Exceptional Bike Tour in the Basque Country

Our Basque Country bike tour was absolutely amazing and surpassed our expectations on all fronts! Our friendly and highly professional guides, Luìs and André, were exceptional and took care of our every need throughout the trip from start to finish. I had transitioned from a hybrid to a road bike for the tour. Our guides provided insightful cycling tips throughout and made me a more efficient and technically competent rider enabling me to power through all the ascents we tackled during our tour.

The rides, coastal and inland, were incredible. The scenery along every route was beautiful. Details and logistics for accommodations, meals, snacks and cycling nutritional needs were meticulously planned and executed. Our bikes were very high quality and carefully maintained throughout the tour. This was our second cycling tour with Live, Love, Ride. We had the same amazing experience when we cycled in Portugal with Luis and Joaquim in 2024. We are already planing our next bike tour in Spain with the expert team at Live, Love, Ride.

Best trip ever!

This was my first bike tour and it was the best vacation I have taken. Traveling town to town, over varied terrain including beach boardwalks, medieval cobblestone roads, dirt paths, rocky trails, and cruising through small towns, thriving cities, beautiful agricultural lands and vineyards, and bisecting gorgeous pine forests, fed all my senses. The boutique hotels they chose for us were each special in their own way. In addition to the exceptional customer service and outstanding hotel choices, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the restaurant recommendations; I strongly suggest going with their choices. Portugal and Spain are each beautiful countries and the culture changed more than I expected as we moved along the route. Experiencing the region on two wheels gave us the opportunity to experience these countries using all five senses, at a perfect pace to take it all in. We Lived, We Loved and We Rode our way through one of the best experiences of our lives.

Why Spain Is One of Europe’s Best Destinations for a Bicycle Tour

Choosing Spain for your next cycling vacation means choosing scenic variety, cultural depth and a rhythm that changes every day…

Few European destinations offer the same mix of landscapes, road quality and cultural richness within a single country. On a multi-day bicycle tour in Spain, one day you’re riding along quiet Mediterranean backroads, while the next takes you climbing into the mountains or through vineyard valleys and medieval towns.

Geographic diversity is a clear advantage. You’ll move:

  • From the coves and cliffs of the Costa Brava to the green countryside around Girona;
  • From Mallorca’s iconic mountain roads to the white villages of southern Spain;
  • Or across the open fields and forests along the Camino de Santiago.

This constant shift keeps cycling holidays in Spain engaging, even over longer itineraries.

Another core characteristic of riding in one of the best cycling destinations in Europe is that Spain is known for:

  • Well-maintained secondary roads;
  • Low traffic in rural areas;
  • Drivers who are used to sharing the road with cyclists.

This creates a comfortable environment for both, guided and self-guided bike tours, reassuring recreational riders while still satisfying more experienced cyclists looking for a challenge.

Overall, cycling becomes a way to connect with regional food, local traditions, and towns shaped by centuries of history. Long lunches, small family-run hotels, village plazas, and regional cuisines turn each ride into an experience like no other.

For many travelers, the group dynamic is what makes our Spain bicycle tours so incredible. Riding with like-minded people, sharing meals, stories and challenges, builds meaningful connections.

Our Cycling Holidays Across Spain

Once you know how you want to ride, the next choice is where!

Each region brings its own rhythm, scenery and character, resulting in very different bicycle tours in Spain. From coastal routes to inland valleys and historic paths, these journeys reflect the country’s diversity.

If you’re still comparing options, take a look at our best Bike Tours in Spain.

Catalonia and Costa Brava

Our Catalonia bike tours bring you the perfect mix of Mediterranean coastlines with rolling inland roads, making it one of the most varied regions for cycling holidays in Spain.

Routes here move between quiet countryside, medieval villages and stretches along the coastline above turquoise coves. One day you’re riding past stone farmhouses and vineyards near Girona, the next you’re cycling down toward the sea.

Girona and Its Surrounding Countryside

Girona has earned its reputation as a cycling hub for good reason... Quiet secondary roads, rolling terrain and well-paced climbs create ideal conditions for recreational and intermediate riders.

The landscape feels open and rural, with small villages, wheat fields and gentle hills. Loops often start and finish near the city, making your days feel smooth and unhurried.

Our Girona bike tours suit riders who value a slow rhythm and consistency over extremes.

Mallorca and the Serra de Tramuntana

Our Mallorca bike tours combine iconic mountain roads with accessible riding along the coastline, all within the same island!

Climbs in the Serra de Tramuntana deliver incredible views, while inland routes pass by almond groves and quiet villages. This variety makes it ideal for mixed-ability groups, especially with e-bikes smoothing longer climbs.

Riders often share café stops, descents toward the sea and relaxed evenings.

Bicycle Tours in Andalucia

Southern Spain feels different from the moment you arrive... Our Andalucia bike tours take you through whitewashed villages, olive groves and rolling countryside warmed by the sun.

Roads connect small towns where traditions remain strong and meals stretch long into the afternoon. It’s a region that rewards curiosity and slower pacing, ideal for cultural travelers.

Camino de Santiago by Bike from Léon

Starting from León, our Camino de Santiago bike tours take you through forests, farmland and historic towns, shared with fellow pilgrims moving toward the same goal.

The days carry a sense of purpose, shaped by simple routines and meaningful encounters.

Conversations start easily.

Evenings feel like heaven.

Cycling the Camino de Santiago offers reflection, connection and a journey that stays with you long after the ride is over.

La Rioja and the Basque Country

This northern corner of Spain is greener, quieter and deeply connected to food and wine.

Cycling routes pass vineyards, coastal cliffs and fishing villages, often at a gentler pace. Riding days are balanced by long lunches, local wines and regional cuisine.

Our Basque Country bike tours are the right match for travelers who value gastronomy, tradition and landscapes that invite you to slow down.

What It’s Like to Join a Multi-Day Bicycle Tour in Spain

A multi-day cycling vacation in Spain follows a comfortable and well-balanced rhythm. Mornings begin with breakfast and a briefing on the route ahead, then you go out to ride quiet backroads, scenic climbs or rolling countryside at a pace that feels right for the group or for you. You’ll know when it’s time to stop for coffee, viewpoints or photos.

Midday often means a relaxed lunch, sometimes lingering longer than planned.

Afternoons bring shorter rides or gentle descents, followed by time to rest, explore the village or enjoy a swim. Evenings are about good food and sharing stories over fun conversations.

If you choose one of our guided bike tours in Spain, support is always nearby, with guides and vehicles adjusting the day as needed. On the other hand, on self-guided bike trips, remote assistance and clear navigation keep things smooth.

No matter what you choose, comfort, personal pacing and enjoyment come first on all our bike tours in Spain.

Planning Your Next Bicycle Tour in Spain

Planning a bicycle tour in Spain doesn’t need to feel complicated...

Start by thinking about:

  • When you’d like to travel;
  • How many days you have;
  • What kind of riding excites you most (e.g., along the coastline or into the mountains; social rides or quiet independence).

Also consider:

  • Your fitness level;
  • Comfort expectations;
  • Whether you prefer full support or more flexibility.

From there, it becomes easier to narrow down regions and tour styles.

Most importantly, take your time!

Good planning leads to a better experience, and Spain rewards thoughtful choices.

Choosing the Right Bike Tour Type

The right tour type depends on how you like to travel:

  • Guided bicycle tours suit riders who value structure, social connection and full logistical support.
  • Self-guided bicycle tours work well for independent travelers who want freedom with backup.
  • Premium bicycle tours appeal to those prioritizing comfort, dining and curated experiences.

Your fitness, travel style and how hands-on you want to be will usually point you in the right direction.

Best Time of Year for Cycling in Spain

Spring and fall are ideal for most cycling holidays in Spain, offering mild temperatures and quieter roads.

Summer works well in northern regions and mountain areas, while winter can be perfect in southern Spain. However, conditions vary by region, so timing often depends on where you plan to ride. With flexible routes and support, the weather rarely becomes a barrier to a great bicycle trip.
