Spain is a European country bordered to the west by Portugal; to the northeast it borders France, from which it is separated by the tiny principality of Andorra and by the great wall of the Pyrenees Mountains. An integrant part of Spain are The Canary (Canarias) Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean and the Balearic (Baleares) Islands, in the Mediterranean.

With 47 million inhabitants, and over 500.000 km2 of land mass, it’s one of the biggest countries in Europe.
The official language is Castilian and it's the country’s most widely spoken language, what outside Spain is generally known as Spanish. It also has 5 other co-official languages from some of the autonomous regions: Catalan in Catalonia and in the Balearic Islands, Valencian in Valencia, Galician (Gallego) in Galicia, and Euskera (Basque) in the Basque Country and in some Euskera-speaking territories of Navarra.

Due to its large size, Spain has several climate zones, but you can expect a Mediterranean climate most of the time in most areas, with hot dry summers and mild, rainy winters. The Balearic islands have a maritime climate with cool wet winters and hot dry summers.
